A new report, entitled Positive Energy, argues that it is feasible for renewables to deliver at least 60% of the UK’s electricity demand by the year 2030.
The Executive Summary of the report, published by WWF, states that this target must be reached in order to maintain reliability and security for the UK’s energy system, without resorting to new fossil fuels or nuclear power facilities.
Six different scenarios are proposed in the report, with provision for electric vehicles and electric heating being taken into account. Positive Energy offers 10 policy recommendations for the UK power sector, prioritising renewable energy growth, reducing energy demand, and increasing interconnection with the rest of Europe.
