Rainey Endowed School win Project ReDesign Belfast

In the penultimate of 5 Project ReDesign workshops around the UK, which took place at the Ulster Halls in Belfast today, Rainey Endowed School took the top prize of a week’s internship with one of our Founding Partners.

During the day over 100 students from 18 schools across Northern Ireland rose to a challenge set by Dame Ellen MacArthur, who hosted the day; In a world of finite resources and rising energy costs how would they re-design the way we do things, at a systems level, to address our current waste problems, whilst at the same time create a materials opportunity?

Volunteers from our Founding Partners were on hand, as they have been at all previous workshops, to facilitate creative thinking and add an industry, real-life angle to the students’ thinking.

It was a wonderful day and great to see young minds focused on re-designing and re-thinking all our futures.

As part of maximizing the opportunities to communicate with different audiences offered by this series of high-profile events Ken Webster, Head of Learning at the Foundation, ran a seminar for accompanying teachers, on the circular economy.

The final event takes place on Friday 25 March, in Oxford.
