During the day over 100 students from 18 schools across Northern Ireland rose to a challenge set by Dame Ellen MacArthur, who hosted the day; In a world of finite resources and rising energy costs how would they re-design the way we do things, at a systems level, to address our current waste problems, whilst at the same time create a materials opportunity?

Volunteers from our Founding Partners were on hand, as they have been at all previous workshops, to facilitate creative thinking and add an industry, real-life angle to the students’ thinking.
It was a wonderful day and great to see young minds focused on re-designing and re-thinking all our futures.
Adam Grennan, Head of Technical Strategy (Ireland), Cisco
What’s been fantastic to see is how the young peoples’ thinking progressed and their confidence built throughout the day. There was some exciting thinking from the students and the day has really shown how beneficial it is for businesses and education to interact in this way.
Alex Duff, B&Q’s Corporate Activation Manager
The young people I met today really do have the ability to change the way we think about the future.

As part of maximizing the opportunities to communicate with different audiences offered by this series of high-profile events Ken Webster, Head of Learning at the Foundation, ran a seminar for accompanying teachers, on the circular economy.
The final event takes place on Friday 25 March, in Oxford.
