Develop information technologies that enable the circular economy at scale

Cisco is at the forefront of enabling the Internet of Things (IoT) – bringing together people, process, data, and things - to make networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before. This connectivity can turn information into actions that create new capabilities, richer experiences, and unprecedented economic opportunity for businesses, individuals, and countries.

Cisco’s engineering strategy around the IoT supports the transition to a circular economy, with new connected devices enabling the tracking of products, components and materials for re-use and recovery; new business models through greater connection with customers; and more effective reverse logistics chains.

Focus Areas

Cisco is working closely with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation across three areas:

  • Thought leadership – exploring the role of IoT as an enabler of circular innovation at scale
  • Circular value propositions – pursuing joint-value creation opportunities via development of circular customer offerings (e.g. managed services, product take-back programmes, refurbishment activities etc.)

Disruptive innovation – providing the networking platform, as well as content and thought leadership as official technology partner to the Disruptive Innovation Festival
