An important part of the Danish EPA’s activities is aimed at Danish businesses, within both industry and agriculture. Increasingly, the framework conditions for Danish enterprises are being affected by the global market, with the environment acting as a competition parameter in line with other factors. In order to secure new knowledge for consumers on the environment, health and consumption, the EPA’s target is to amass the most up-to-date knowledge and knowhow within the relevant areas.
A Denmark without waste is the Danish EPA’s vision. Currently its work is focused on implementing two strategies:
Denmark without Waste I - Recycle more – incinerate less: and Denmark without Waste II - strategy for waste prevention.
Denmark without Waste I focuses amongst others goals on doubling recycling of household waste by 2022, increased bio- gasification as well as improved quality in recycling construction waste. Denmark without Waste II emphasises resource efficient companies and sustainable consumption. The initiatives include partnerships in the value chain, green public procurement, eco-labelling, consumer information and funding schemes for SMEs.
The Danish Government seeks to support Danish companies in their efforts to become better at producing more with less, because it may increase competitiveness and contribute to a more sustainable use of resources. The Government helps to strengthen the companies’ strategic environmental work and resource efficiency through its support role. The circular economy offers great opportunities for improving the competitiveness of Danish companies, while developing new green solutions for a growing global market and achieving significant environmental benefits. The Danish EPA plays a central role in these efforts through partnerships with stakeholders and by supporting new efficient environmental solutions, as well as promoting green public procurement.
In collaboration with the Ministry for Business and Growth, a task force for increased resource efficiency has been set up, aimed at removing regulatory barriers for business.
