As Creative Manager, you will provide strong design leadership to complement the ambitions of the Foundation. You will be responsible for leading the creative art direction - for the Foundation and for individual campaigns - and be the champion of the new brand approach to ensure consistency across all of our channels.

At the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, we recognise that our brand and visual identity contribute to our success at an international scale. We have recently completed a brand evolution programme, restructured our brand architecture by bringing together our numerous brands under one umbrella, as well as developing new brand positioning and visual identity.You will directly manage a team of five graphic designers, providing mentorship and guidance as well as hands-on support where necessary, and manage the workflow of projects through the team. As a strong collaborator and team player, you will work closely with the rest of the communications and digital teams in particular, as well a number of other programme teams across the Foundation. You are probably a senior designer looking for a step up or a design manager looking to apply your experience in a new, meaningful industry.

Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to our Marketing and Communications Lead your main areas of responsibility will be:

  • Team management, mentorship and guidance (covering graphic design, audio/visual, social media assets etc) - assigning and coordinating projects for individuals in the in-house team, and working with project stakeholders to meet and manage deadlines.
  • Art direction for the Foundation and campaigns - guiding / influencing design decisions at concept stage and providing sign-off / direction for the in-house team, or external collaborator, throughout the phases of production.
  • Guardian of brand architecture and champion of our visual identity - working closely with the Communications and Marketing Lead to align on strategic brand elements, as well as coordinating with the wider Branding and Legal Team to address risk / impact of branding decisions.
  • Agency and freelance management, including briefing documents, managing proposals, etc.
  • Manage studio workflow and project timelines.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and apply them.
  • Some budget management.
  • Internal relationship building with other programme teams.

Your profile

  • You will have a strong educational background together with 8+ years relevant experience client or agency side.
  • You are probably currently a senior designer, art director or creative director.
  • An understanding of the circular economy will be highly beneficial for this role.
  • Fluency with Adobe Creative Cloud Suite software together with advanced skills in graphic design, and preferably knowledge of document formatting/typesetting, animation and video software.
  • Proven skills in management and team leadership
  • Evidence of working in a highly collaborative environment.
  • You will draw inspiration from being kept up to date with the latest in art, design and creative thinking.
