Background

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Digital team as a front-end developer. You will work to create and maintain our websites and digital systems; helping us to realise the potential of digital technology and achieve our mission. You will be an excellent problem solver, with strong analytical skills and a technical mindset. You will be confident working with others and communicating with non-technical people.

Role and Responsibilities

Reporting to our Technical Lead, your main activities will lie in the following areas:

  • Front-End Development. Building and maintaining the front-end interfaces for our various software systems, working with state-of-the-art software tools in a creative, collaborative environment.
  • Optimisation. Working to ensure that our sites and systems are developed with development best practice, and meet the high standards expected by our users in terms of performance, accessibility and usability.
  • Technical Support. Working with content owners and stakeholders to ensure that they understand how to use our software to meet their needs.
  • Testing. Carrying out functional and user testing of our systems and of new features as they are developed, to ensure the high quality of our products.
  • Agile Development. Collaborating with other developers, designers and UX researchers as part of an agile team, to provide digital solutions for the Foundation.

Your profile

  • Qualified to degree level in Computer Science or similar, with ideally some work experience in a related area although training will be given where appropriate.
  • Knowledgeable writing HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with proven experience working on front-end systems.
  • Self-driven with a high level of motivation. Demonstrating a willingness to learn.
  • Experienced with some of the following additional technologies:
    • React or similar JavaScript library/framework
    • GraphQL
    • Git or other version control systems.
    • Modern Web Development practices.
    • PHP or Python programming languages.
  • An excellent communicator. The ability to interact effectively at all levels of an organisation and to contribute proactively to problem solving in meetings and workshops is essential.
  • Excellent at organising your own workflow and coordinating with other members of your team.
