The Ellen MacArthur Foundation was founded in 2010 to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Our New Plastics Economy initiative brings together key stakeholders from across the plastics value chain to rethink and redesign the future of plastics, starting with packaging. We have united more than 1000 organisations globally behind a common vision for a circular economy for plastics as part of our Global Commitment and global network of Plastics Pacts. Businesses and governments from around the world have set ambitious targets for 2025 towards this vision.

Building on the growing international interest in the circular economy and our New Plastics Economy initiative (NPEC), we aim to support and accelerate the transition to a circular economy in China. The overall objective of the China Programme is to build on existing awareness, and to mobilise a broader momentum across public and private sectors towards a circular economy in the following ways:

Engage, exchange. Facilitate the exchange of information and best practices between organisations from across the plastics value chain in China as well as internationally; translate and tailor circular economy research findings to different audience groups in China; make China-specific and international insights available in both Chinese and English;

Mobilise along value chains. Mobilise a variety of stakeholders involved in designing, using and reusing plastics behind the opportunity of a circular economy for plastics;

Convene, shape pilots and demonstration projects. Help initiate multi-stakeholder coalitions and demonstration projects.
