Today sees the Ellen MacArthur Foundation at the centre of two events at this week’s World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. Early this evening, Ellen MacArthur and Wendy Schmidt, Lead Philanthropic Partner of the New Plastics Economy initiative, will host Redesigning Systems Through Innovation for a Circular Economy, a drinks reception which will see five winners of the Circular Materials Challenge announced as part of the $2 million New Plastics Economy Innovation Prize. Each will receive their share of a $1 million award, joining the winners of the Circular Design Challenge announced in November last year.

Guests at the event can expect to hear bold and positive announcements relating to circular economy transformation across plastics, fashion and food. Speakers will include Ellen MacArthur, Wendy Schmidt (President, The Schmidt Family Foundation), Stella McCartney (Fashion Designer & Activist), Andrew Morlet, (CEO of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation), Tim Brown, (CEO of IDEO), and executive representatives from The Coca-Cola Company, Unilever, Werner & Mertz and Suez Environment.

Later in the evening, Ellen MacArthur will be a guest speaker at the evian and Mission 2020 dinner, alongside Stella McCartney, Wendy Schmidt, Christiana Figueres (Convenor of Mission 2020) and Patricia Oliva (Global Brand Director, evian) to discuss how the circular economy can contribute to curbing emissions to create a decarbonised world. Hosted by evian, a brand of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Global Partner Danone, the dinner will be a moderated discussion by Rana Foroohar, Financial Times Global Business Columnist & Associate Editor.
