Schmidt-MacArthur Summer School 2014: Day 3

June 26, 2014

CE100 Summit, London

The second Circular Economy 100 Annual Summit was held in London on Wednesday 25th June. Welcoming members of the CE100 and Schmidt-MacArthur Fellows and Mentors, the day was filled with diverse insights into how the circular economy is working in practice and provided many opportunities for networking.

Ali Velshi of Al Jazeera America facilitated the day, taking challenging questions from the audience via Twitter to pose to speakers. Ellen MacArthur opened the Summit and was followed by Jamie Butterworth, CEO of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, who reflected on the progress of the CE100 group.

Split into three sessions, the Summit explored:

  • Leading company innovations for a circular economy
  • Big issues and opportunities for the circular economy – finance, energy, water and Asia
  • Future design and manufacturing

We also heard from Flora Poppelaars, Schmidt-MacArthur Fellowship Alumni 2013 about her collaboration with CE100 member Vodafone on redesigning the mobile phone handsets to be more compatible for disassembly and upgrade.
