January 29, 2020

Last week, the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting returned to Davos.

Ellen, Andrew Morlet, and other members of the team joined business executives representing 1,000 of the globe’s foremost companies, and more than 100 government leaders and ambassadors to define priorities and shape global industry and regional agenda.

This year’s overarching theme was Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World, and as in previous years, the circular economy was high on the agenda, with over 35 sessions dedicated to the topic.

New Plastics Economy Session

Our New Plastics Economy initiative hosted an event which attracted in excess of 150 people, including CEOs, business leaders, and government ministers. Acknowledging that while progress is encouraging we cannot afford to rest on our laurels, the discussions revolved around how we proceed to push up ambition levels to ensure we achieve our collective targets by 2025. Panellist debate focused on what industry and governments are currently doing to scale and accelerate delivery against the 2025 targets, and the bold Minderoo’s Sea The Future initiative, which is aiming to close the price gap between virgin and recycled plastics, an important enabler to scale delivery.
