The Foundation to host three WCEFonline Side Events in the lead up to WCEF2021

October 12, 2020

At the end of September, WCEFonline brought together more than 5,000 business leaders, policymakers, and experts to explore how a circular economy can help to reboot and build resilience in the global economy.

The event addressed how the circular economy helps in building more resilient businesses, why sustainable finance is key, and what governments need to focus on now to scale up the circular economy.

For the next week, you can watch the opening session where Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice President of the European Commission, together with Inger Andersen, Executive Director of UN Environment Programme address the current state of the global economy and its recovery in the context of the European Green Deal.

Canada will be hosting the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) in 2021, identifying the key actions and systemic changes needed to create the conditions for a thriving global circular economy. In preparation for the Forum, there will be WCEFonline Side Events taking place until the 31st December and a WCEF event in the Netherlands on 15th-16th April, to address the links between the circular economy and climate.

The Foundation is hosting three side events on how cities are measuring their progress towards a circular economy (13th October), improving measurement of circular economy performance (28th October), and building a circular North America (19th November).

On the 13th October, the event will address the OECD’s upcoming report on how cities are measuring their progress towards a circular economy. It will discuss the different drivers and obstacles that cities face, and how they are overcoming them. Guest speakers are Oriana Romano, OECD Head of Unit for Water Governance and Circular Economy and Janet Ågren, the Deputy Mayor of the City Umea in Sweden, one of the case study cities in the OECD’s report.
