Role at the Foundation

Leela is part of the New Plastic Economy innovation team. She uses her technical background to assess emerging innovation opportunities within the plastic packaging sector, specifically focusing on the exciting innovation and business potential offered by upstream solutions.

Background

Leela moved to the Isle of Wight from Australia. She has a background in chemistry and materials engineering, holding a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Queensland where she was a Westpac Future Leaders Scholar, and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Western Australia where she was a Fogarty Scholar. Her doctoral research within the biopolymer research group encompassed social science, life-cycle assessment and materials engineering techniques. She enjoys teaching and has worked as a lecturer at university as well as a science communicator in regional and remote communities throughout Western Australia. Leela loves running, meandering bush paths and being near the ocean, and enjoys that the island offers many opportunities to combine all three.
