Programme Manager, New Plastics Economy
Sonja is leading the Plastics Pacts programme, a global network of Pacts bringing together businesses, governments, NGOs and others in a country or region to drive collective action towards the circular economy for plastics. The Plastics Pacts are part of the Foundation’s New Plastics Economy initiative, an ambitious three-year initiative to rethink and redesign the plastics system based on circular economy principles. The Initiative brings together key stakeholders from across the plastics value chain to change the way we produce, use, and reuse plastics, starting with plastics packaging.
Having a background in Packaging Engineering, Sonja gained several years of hands-on industry experience between 2010 and 2015. In 2015, she embarked on a solo backpacking journey, taking her to countries like Ecuador, Colombia, Russia, Mongolia, and China, before she embarked on a new professional journey with the Foundation 2017.
