To ensure its future survival and success, we must help fashion reinvent itself.

A circular economy tackles the root causes of global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, while providing opportunities for better growth. Increasingly based on renewable energy and materials, it is based on three principles, all led by design: eliminate waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use, and regenerate natural systems.

For fashion, this means ensuring that products (apparel, footwear, accessories) are:

  • Used more
  • Made to be made again
  • Made from safe and recycled or renewable inputs

Eliminating the negative consequences of our current operating models demands us to rethink every aspect of our working practices. By embracing the principles of a circular economy for fashion, we can create an industry which benefits business, society, and the environment.

This vision is relevant everywhere in the world and builds on extensive research with inputs from around 100 organisations including fabric mills, garment manufacturers, brands, retailers, collectors, sorters, recyclers, academics, international institutions, and NGOs. By taking collaborative action towards the vision, we can scale the circular economy fast.
