What were the outcomes of COP28 and how does the circular economy systems transition fit in?

The circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature. has emerged as a compelling solution to tackle global challenges including climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It's a linchpin in achieving SDG12 and supports eleven other Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG13 on climate action. This COP28 side-event at the UN-DESA SDG Pavilion, organised by the Foundation, ClimateWorks Foundation, and the National Centre for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation, China, explored how the circular economy can contribute to tackling the global climate crisis and other SDG areas.
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation works to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. We develop and promote the idea of a circular economy, and work with business, academia, policymakers, and institutions to mobilise systems solutions at scale, globally.
