In September 2023, the Foundation’s group of Circular Design Leaders came together at CY Design School in Paris for a 3.5 day Design Sprint to explore and develop frameworks and processes to enable change and accelerate a circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature. transformation.
The Circular Design Leaders are a group of engaged senior design leaders within the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Network with a circular economy agenda. Their ambition is to accelerate the adoption of circular design in their organisations and inspire the global design audience.
In order to accelerate the transition to a circular economy, shifting perceptions and mindsets is crucial. Designers have tried and tested methods to support and facilitate collaboration with diverse types of actors in an organisation - creating the conditions for change.
In line with the Foundation’s recently launched Adaptive Strategy for circular design, the Circular Design Leaders explored the need to widen the scope of value creation in order to implement circular design and progress a circular economy transformation - focusing on the following areas:
Developing systemic insights
Creating a regenerative vision
Developing enabling conditions
By bringing together leaders in this space, it enables opportunities for collaboration, learning exchange and creates the space for circular economy conversations - unlocking the potential of circular design.
