Investment in infrastructure: Improvements were made in the different Recycling Centers to ensure the operation.
The city is in the process of installing containers for curbside recycling every 150 meters.
600 recyclable bins were delivered to government buildings and 190 to Schools.
Promotion of collection, sorting, reuse and/or recycling schemes (e.g. deposit return schemes): Botellas de Amor. Citizens are encouraged to put problematic/difficult to recycle single-use plastic packaging and products inside PET bottles. They are collected and given to Regenerar Foundation for further treatment and conversion into plastic wood, to make urban furniture, decks, etc. From November 2020 to june 2021, 15,95 tonnes were collected.
Establishment or revision of economic incentives (e.g. subsidies) or disincentives (e.g. taxes, charges): There was an increase in subsidies (23%, January 2020 to January 2021) as well as the payment of a bonus to cooperative members involved in the operation of collecting and treating recyclables.
Provide more details about the selected actions - Establishment or revision of Extended Producer Responsibility schemes: The Government is working on the regulation of single-use plastics, as well as on the promotion of circular economy models for the integral management of recyclable materials.
Delivery of awareness raising and education campaigns: Massive 360° communication campaign: “Me reciclo. Separame”. Zero based campaign to promote sorting household waste in radio, TV, social media and street.
Territorial awareness raising: From February to June, 42000 fronts were contacted to talk about #BARecicla and what/where/when the citizens can recycle. Workshops, talks and training: 130 organizations participated (impact in 3309 persons).
Gobierno Ejemplar: Network of managers in public buildings to ensure the correct waste management.
Encouragement of voluntary actions: Embajadores Verdes Program has been launched in 2021. The goal is to train citizens so they can amplify the recycling message. Nowadays 1,000 neighbors have subscribed to the Program and they can participate in different activities monthly.
Sello Verde is the program that certifies the correct waste management in public and private organizations. Since March 2021, 47 institutions have applied to the certification process.
Promotion of collaboration with the private sector, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and civil society organisations: “The Circular Economy Network” has been launched in order to work within private sector programmes, actions, campaigns, public policy regarding Circular Economy. In the reporting period, a HDPE committee has been conformed with producers. The goal is working with them in a strategy for increasing the collection of this plastic.
