Delivery of awareness raising and education campaigns: The 2020 European Week for Waste Reduction took place on 21 to 29 November with the participation of 38 European regions and 10.690 activities. The Catalan Waste Agency alongside ACR+, EC and CoR are members of the steering committee. 260 public and private entities from Catalonia organized 827 activities http://residus.gencat.cat/en/ambits_dactuacio/prevencio/setmana_europea/index.html
Promotion of collaboration with the private sector, including small and medium-sized enterprises, and civil society organisations: We are working with other departments and several retailers to build a voluntary agreement that allow consumers to use their own reusable packaging when they buy several food and cleansing products. In October 2019 a voluntary agreement with the Catalan Association of Water Packers was signed. Some of the specific agreements are the commitment to reach 70% of reusable glass water bottles in restaurants and 100% of reusable glass water carafes of home-delivery in 2020.
Other actions taken: As from the 1August 2019 the Catalan Waste Agency is participating in the Interreg project SUBTRACT to foster the reuse in Catalonia. The SUBTRACT project focuses on the post start-up and scaling-up phases to render reuse centers effective and durable, i.e. to provide a steady flow of income and outgoing goods well prepared for reuse, a professional management, a suitable financial strategy and an attractive image for the users. https://www.interregeurope.eu/subtract/
