What does a full-blooded circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature. look like? In the 1980s, Hugo Spowers was working with F1 teams, but changed the direction of his career dramatically to create Riversimple. The concept was to create a 100% circular car using hydrogen fuel cell technology, designing modularity into the vehicle and only selling a performance contract for the car and its mileage, not the asset itself. During Summit 2019, the Foundation's Colin Webster spoke to Hugo and took a look at the company's latest Rasa model.
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation works to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. We develop and promote the idea of a circular economy, and work with business, academia, policymakers, and institutions to mobilise systems solutions at scale, globally.
