Circles

We’ve been pioneering the circular economy since 2012, taking it from niche to mainstream. Today, 55% of large businesses have made circularity commitments and the circular economy is high on the agenda of governments around the world.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has been at the forefront of this evolution, with a seat at the highest tables. We’ve united businesses representing 20% of the global plastic packaging industry behind a resolution to tackle plastic pollution, catalysed nature-positive innovation in the food industry, mobilised billions of dollars of financing towards the circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature., helped to shape transformative policy, and fostered collaboration between major world governments.

Champions of the Earth award

In recognition of the far-reaching impact of these initiatives, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation was awarded a Champions of the Earth award — the UN’s highest environmental honour – in 2023.
