The Global Commitment 2025

Led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme, the Global Commitment has united more than 1200 organisations behind a common vision of a circular economycircular economyA systems solution framework that tackles global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution. It is based on three principles, driven by design: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature.. Driven by the goal of tackling plastic pollution at its source, companies representing 20% of all plastic packaging produced globally have committed to ambitious 2025 targets to help realise that common vision. This seventh annual progress report reviews signatories’ performance against those commitments, using the most recent (2024) reported data. It presents results at both the aggregate level and the company level, and benchmarks signatories’ performance against broader market trends. As the report covers progress through 2024, final outcomes compared with 2025 targets will be reflected next year.

Looking ahead, signatories of the Global Commitment are re-committing to driving change together. Our ‘2030 Plastics Agenda for Business’ outlines priority actions for business for the next five years, spanning individual action, collaborative action, and collective advocacy. It also includes how voluntary business action will remain critical, with the next phase of the Global Commitment.
